Elbow bothering Rays ace Kazmir.(Sports) - The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. [bar] Tampa Bay Rays lefthander Scott Kazmir missed a scheduled intrasquad game appearance Tuesday after feeling discomfort in his elbow on his final warmup pitch.

Kazmir, 24, was 13-9 with a 3.48 ERA last season. His status is expected to be updated today.

Vizquel to miss 4-6 weeks

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. [bar] San Francisco Giants shortstop Omar Vizquel will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Manager Bruce Bochy plans to use Kevin Frandsen at shortstop in Vizquel's absence.

Cardinals

Pitchers to bat eighth JUPITER, Fla. [bar] St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said his pitchers will bat eighth in the regular season.

The Cardinals went 28-28 last season after La Russa inserted a position player in the ninth spot behind the pitcher - after starting the season 50-56.
