Patriots' Brady easily wins top offensive award.(Sports) - The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA)

NEW YORK [bar] Quarterback Tom Brady added The Associated Press 2007 Offensive Player of the Year honors to his collection Tuesday, easily outdistancing his main weapon on the unbeaten New England Patriots, Randy Moss.

Brady collected 35 votes to 12 for Moss. Wes Welker, the Patriots' other starting receiver, got one, as did Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre.

Brady threw for 50 touchdowns, beating Peyton Manning's league mark by one. He threw 23 of those TD passes to Moss, lifting the receiver past Jerry Rice's record of 22.

JAGUARS

Two defensive players miss parts of practice

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. [bar] Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson and safety Reggie Nelson missed parts of practice as Jacksonville prepares for New England in the AFC playoffs.

Coach Jack Del Rio also ruled out linebacker Mike Peterson, who will miss his eighth consecutive game with a broken right hand.

Henderson strained a hamstring in the first quarter Saturday at Pittsburgh and played sparingly the rest of the way. He wasn't at the start of practice Tuesday.

Nelson injured his thigh in practice last week but played Saturday. He was riding a stationary bike during practice Tuesday.

49ERS

Martz taking over as offensive coordinator

SAN FRANCISCO [bar] The 49ers hired Mike Martz as their offensive coordinator.

Martz was fired by the Detroit Lions last week after two seasons. In San Francisco, he replaces Jim Hostler, who also was fired last week after the 49ers finished last in the NFL with 219 points.

Eagles' secondary coach interviews in baltimore

OWINGS MILLS, Md. [bar] Philadelphia secondary coach John Harbaugh met with Ravens officials as the team's sixth candidate for its head coaching job.

The Ravens also have interviewed Colts assistant head coach Jim Caldwell; Cowboys assistant head coach Tony Sparano; Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett; recently dismissed Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Jags Running back Taylor added to AFC roster

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. [bar] Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, replacing Pittsburgh's Willie Parker.

Parker broke a bone in his right leg last month and pulled out of the game, allowing Taylor to get his first Pro Bowl invitation.

Broncos defensive coordinator Jim Bates resigned after his lone season in that job.

The Eagles signed receiver Jamal Jones and defensive ends Xzavie Jackson and A.J. Schable to multiyear contracts.

The Dolphins hired David Lee, who had been part of Houston Nutt's staff at Mississippi, to become their quarterbacks coach.

Browns rookie left tackle Joe Thomas was added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster, replacing injured Jason Peters of the Bills.

Bears linebackers coach Hardy Nickerson, a former standout with Tampa Bay, resigned after just one season.
